Open Change uses service design thinking to help people and organisations make work better. The Academy harnesses its expertise in training and education to provide bespoke training and staff development for organisations.

WHO WE ARE

With world class subject expertise and proven teaching excellence, we have experience of directing a Masters programme in service design, delivering the only postgraduate study in service design specifically for social workers and health professionals, pioneering design management education and providing the Change by Design programme for the Queen’s Young Leaders for the University of Cambridge.

VICKY WYLIE

Vicky has an exciting portfolio of projects gained from working across the creative sector. Her clients include Glasgow School of Art, NHS, University of Dundee, University of Edinburgh and Dundee Contemporary Arts. She also runs the Explore Play Create creative workshops for children.

JON GILL

Jon has a passion for enabling creative potential. A designer of 30 years his career spans illustration, graphic design, service design, communications, film making and education, in public and private sectors. His #MadeOnAMobile initiative provides film making training to organisations. Clients include The National Museum of Scotland, Skills Development Scotland and the College Development Network.

BARBARA MERTLOVA

Barbara makes sense of data, helps with event organisation, and is responsible for media and website support. She is a Senior Deputy Editor of the Magdalen Magazine and journalist for The Germinal. Barbara is also a mentor and peer connector at the University of Dundee, where she studies Politics and International Relations.

HAZEL WHITE

Hazel has 25 years experience in design practice, research and education including setting up one of the first postgraduate courses in service design in the world. She has delivered service design training and creative workshops for a range of clients such as the Dasman Diabetes Institute in Kuwait, the Scottish Government, the Scottish Public Pensions Agency, Dundee City Council and Creative Scotland.

MIKE PRESS

Mike is Emeritus Professor of Design Policy. He is recognised as a pioneer of design management and the application of design to social policy, authoring key texts on these subjects which have been translated into Russian, Spanish and Mandarin. He was joint director of the Home Office's Design Against Crime project, and was shortlisted for the Sir Misha Black Medal for innovation in design education.
 

LINSEY MCINTOSH

Linsey is an award winning designer who specialises in engaging people in the design process to create better experiences and environments in which to live, work and play. She is also a part-time Lecturer in Interior Environmental Design at the University of Dundee. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and as a freelance designer with V&A Dundee has facilitated creative workshops across the city.

ROD MOUNTAIN

Rod Mountain is a specialist ear, nose and throat surgeon who operates and teaches at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. He also actively advances the role that design, and the creative industries, can play in improving all aspects of care. An inspirational public speaker, Rod was designated as a Design Champion for V&A Dundee, for whom he curated the healthcare section of their Scottish design gallery.
